Amazon.co.uk Review:
The delirious sight of Meryl Streep leading a river of multigenerational women singing "Dancing Queen" is one of the high points of Mamma Mia!, the musical built around the songs of the hugely popular pop group ABBA. The plot sets in motion when Sophie (Amanda Seyfried, Mean Girls), daughter of Donna (Streep), sends a letter to three men, inviting them to her wedding--because after reading her mother's diary, she suspects that one of them is her father. When all three arrive at the Greek island where Donna runs a hotel, Donna flips out and finds that passions she thought she'd laid aside are coming back to life. But let's face it, the plot is not the point--it's a ridiculous contrivance that provides an excuse for the characters to sing the massive hits of ABBA. Regrettably, first-time film director Phyllida Lloyd (who directed the original stage production) has drawn over-the-top performances from everyone involved, even Streep; every production number hammers its exuberance into your eyeballs. Which is too bad, because Mamma Mia! is a rarity: A middle-aged love story. The kids start things off, but the story is really about Streep and the three guys (former James Bond Pierce Brosnan, former Mr. Darcy Colin Firth, and Swedish star Stellan Skarsgard), as well as Donna's best friends (Christine Baranski, best known from the TV show Cybill, and Julie Walters, Calendar Girls). It's a romantic comedy aimed at the people who were around when all these songs were new, and that's an age group Hollywood largely ignores. For that alone, Mamma Mia! deserves to find an audience. --Bret Fetzer

- Loved it... see it on Blu Ray
Just finished watching the movie and pretty much all the extras! Absolutely loved the movie (which has already been reviewed many, many times) - best movie musical I've seen since Moulin Rouge. And the Blu Ray - sound and picture - is just stunning. Having been to Skiathos and Skopelos, where this was partially filmed, made me want to go right back. Forget the DVD, buy the Blu Ray. Money well spent...

- Mamma Mia no Sing a long
I was totally amazed when i got my copy of Mamma Mia on Blu Ray it has not got what was probably the biggest extra feature from any film in recent years (they even had special screenings at selected cinemas with it) The Sing a long feature. This is on the DVD version cos they are even advertising it on telly having the feature. Why not on Blu Ray we pay more money so why should we get less extra than the cheaper dvd. C'mon the blu ray can hold many times more than dvd so surely it cant be shortage ... Read More

having watched this film, made up of actors and actresses that cannot sing, winning and sounding like dead cats, i cannot believe the kind of hype made up about a film, so badly made,i would be surprised if you actually could watch it all the way though.you have a daughter who braggs about her mother sleeping around with three blokes , after reading her diary with friends. there is no reality in this film, women do not like to bragg about there mother sleeping with three blokes in 24 hours.the message ... - Mamma Mia - But no Sing Along!
I'm not going to focus on whether this film is great or not because if your reading this you've probably made your own mind up about it anyway. I pre-ordered the blu-ray disc and frankly I really wish I had gone for the DVD as the main added extra I would have liked would have been a sing along option. The bluray does not have this option and the DVD does!!! Very disappointed.

- not watched the whole film but review of blu ray quality
My wife was watching this on our ps3 as I came home from work about 20 mins from the end (phew!).. anyway I was completely dissapointed with the quality of the blu ray. I am a big fan of blu ray and have quite a few titles but this looked shocking... very vivid, too vivid colours... I have seen sharper std dvd's with a good transfer, the sound however was very good but just very dissapointed with the picture or was this how the film was shot? equipment used to view... ps3, onkyo 606, monitor audio 225's, ...
