Amazon.co.uk Review:
While director Norman Jewison's Moonstruck is a romantic cornerstone, this 1994 film is often overlooked. It's a sweet valentine about a young woman, aptly named Faith (Marisa Tomei, never cuter), who chases an unknown man to Europe because the name "Damon Bradley" was once spelled on a Ouija board as her true love. With her sister-in-law (Bonnie Hunt, whose own marriage seems to be falling apart), she travels the streets of Rome looking for Damon Bradley.
And lo and behold, she literally runs into a man claiming to be Damon. Is this meant to be? Faith certainly thinks so. Robert Downey Jr. (also never cuter) plays Damon in a role that showcases his charms. He shows his quick wit in handing Faith's advances and his absolute devotion to her when the winds change. Despite the cuteness factor, this is a movie to fall in love with. Jewison and Sven Nykvist (Ingmar Bergman's cameraman) present a sun-kissed Italy so beautiful, you might be tempted to hop on a plane immediately after viewing the movie. --Doug Thomas
Rating:
- A delight of a film
If you love romantic comedy then this is a film for you! It is sweet and funny and easy to watch. I loved every moment - a fab way to spend an afternoon. Recommended.
Rating:
- only you
This is one of the most boring films I have recently seen, very predictable story!
Rating:
- Perfect!
This is the nicest romcom you are likely to see. It's wonderfully romantic, very funny, endearing to the final scene, and set in some of the most beautiful locations in Italy. Marisa Tomei does a great job, Robert Downey even better, and the on-screen chemistry is present throughout. Billy Zane's hilarious brief appearance alone makes this movie worth a watch. The plot is simple yet unexpected and will have you glued to your seat till the very end. Brilliant.
Rating:
- great entertainment
An absolutely delight. Pure escapism entertainment. Deft comic performances, great chemistry between the leads and stunning scenery. Pour out the wine and forget the world.
Rating:
- Romance with an Italian flavour
The storyline of this romantic comedy, although realistically remote, (who wants realism where romance is concerned?) provides the excuse for a trip along part of the beautiful Costeria Amalfitana to Positano. If you have ever been to Positano, you will understand my enthusiasm for this film. The acting is good comedy-style and the picturesque setting enhances the plot, whilst not interfering with it. Excellent performances all-round.
