Amazon.co.uk Review:
With the smash hit Scream, novice screenwriter Kevin Williamson and veteran horror director Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street) revived the mouldering corpse of the teen horror picture, both creatively and commercially, by playfully acknowledging the exhausted clichés and then turning them inside out. Scream is a postmodern slasher movie, a horror film that cleverly deconstructs horror films, then reassembles the dead tissue, and (like Frankenstein's monster) creates new life. When a serial killer starts hacking up their fellow teens, the media-savvy youngsters of Scream realise that the smartest way of sticking around for the sequel is to avoid the terminal behaviours that inevitably doom supporting players in the movies. They've seen all the movies, and the rules of the genre are like second nature to them. One of the scariest and funniest setups features a kid watching John Carpenter's seminal Halloween on video. As Jamie Lee Curtis is shadowed by Michael Meyers and the kid on the couch yells at her to turn around, Craven reverses his camera and we see that the kid should be taking his own advice. The fresh-faced young cast (including Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette) is fun to watch, and their tart dialogue is sprinkled with enough archly self-conscious pop-culture references to make Quentin Tarantino blush. --Jim Emerson

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Scream
Scream is directed by Wes Craven who is usually a serious horror director but on this occasion makes the film quite quirky, funny, not to gory and most importantly scary! The film has a good line up of actors like Drew Barrymore, Courtney Cox (pre Arquette) and the funny David Arquette. The story evolves around Sid who's mum got killed the year before and now the killer is now after her and her friends. Sids boyfriend makes the film, with his creepy faces and good acting. The villian, who wears the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A masterpiece by Craven
Craven's "Scream" is a masterpiece, it can't be denied. The intricate references to previous horror-movie greats is fantastic and Craven voices his thoughts on the horror genre throughout the film through the character Randy, a movie buff.
There are many plot twists and turns that make for edge-of-your-seat viewing. I loved this film and I highly recommend it to any horror fan. I also recommend you buy the soundtrack - it's awesome.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I scream, you scream, we all scream!
Ok, sorry for the bad title but it just popped into my head ok?!

Anyway, I loved this film, so much so I watched it twice in a row the first time. I think its a very clever take on some great old slasher movies but to get the real benefit you need to watch it two or three times to pick up certain bits of dialogue you may have missed the first time round for example (SPOILER ALERT) in the opening sequence the parents of Drew Barrymore's character, Casey, come home to find their house looking ... Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Not scary, scary, but great!
I saw this last year and loved it! It is rather different to a lot of other horror movies. I loved the plot/storyline, characters and a lot of the characters were fairly young making it even better.
Any horror fan should see this!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not exactly scary...but with Scream it doesn't matter
I would say don't watch this film if you are expecting to see a gut-wrenchingly scary film, but even though its not exactly what you would call scary it is still totally worth seeing. Scream in some ways is the ultimate film, having some gore/horror, some good laughs and a small romantic plot line.
