Amazon.com Review:
Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita triggers a deep conflict within the American psyche about crossing the line between love and the perverse lust for a child. In the bestselling audiobook, Jeremy Irons delivers a smooth, calculating presentation of Humbert Humbert, the middle-aged man obsessed with a 13-year-old girl named Lolita. Following a failed marriage to a "large, puffy, short-legged, big-breasted and practically brainless baba," Humbert decides to move to America to work as a tutor. Much to his dismay, his plans change and he moves into a boarding house in Ramsdale, New Hampshire. But his disappointment quickly fades after he realizes he lives next door to the "light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul Lo-li-ta." The relationship blossoms between the man "with a cesspool of rotting monsters behind his slow boyish smile" and the sassy, vivacious young girl.
The Russian-born author has amazing control of the English language--his jaw-dropping prose comes through powerfully on this audiotape (though some scholars believe the novel symbolizes Nabokov's internal struggle with the English language). Regardless of whether you condemn or condone the classic, listening to this audio rendition is a must. --Gina Kaysen (Running time: 11.5 hours)

I didn't buy this version, instead,I read an ebook of Lolita.
Indeed the book is vastly controversial.I don't think it can be classified as classic literature.Nabokov reminds me of D.H.Lawrence,because both of them pick the most embarrassing thing as their topic.Maybe their writing skills are peerless, but,to me,a good literary work has not only melodious languages,it must be encouraging rather than obscene.
Something is nagging at me for a long time. What is truly "conquering the Nature"?We ... Read More

- not a love story: a story of obsession-BIG DIFFERENCE
putting aside all the social taboo/ male domination issues and judging this book as word art: one of the most significant works of 20th cetury fiction, written in english; this is modern liturature at its finest. Clearly, no matter how excited you may get as a reader, eventually the "stimulation" is not pornographic but a voyeur's dissection [VN is an insect collector] of a male in the throws of a destructive obsession that eventually destroys the host, like a virus. I would recomend this book to young ... Read More

- Lolita
What must be understood, I believe, is that in order to enjoy Lolita, one very insidious thing must happen very quickly along the way. Nabokov doesn't waste any time firing up our passion for this nymphet. You are enthralled, or shocked if you don't like it, then keep reading because, well, N. is by a long, long shot the best stylist of the twentieth century, and to my ears, of all time. To really enjoy this book, the pleasure comes from essentially one inescapable sensual fact, and that be Humbert's enjoyment ... Read More

- Unparalleled
In a word - WOW. Mind-bending. Beyond belief. You must read it to believe it is possible to write a perfect book (with regard to writing, not to subject matter!). A non-native English speaker, no less! I will not soon recover.

- Beautiful writing confronts crude subject matter--A masterpiece
Lolita is a beautifully-written book about a man and his sexual relationship with a young girl. Nabokov's beautiful writing contrasts sharply with the book's crude subject matter. This contrast is what makes this book brilliant, in my opinion.
