Just when I proclaimed "Bats at the Beach" my favorite book, this next one comes around and I can't decide which I love more. "Bats at the Library" is a favorite at our house because my kids (10 and 6) can identify the classic characters in Brian's beautiful illustrations, so it becomes both a great story for bedtime and a "game" - and a platform to talk about the importance of reading and literature. Bats at the library was as fun as Bats at the beach. Every so often the librarian forgets to close a window. Word gets out and the bats head for a night at the library.

There a fun to be had by all. Be it reading books, shaping shadows on a wall, playing with the photo copier, and telling stories.

Bats gather at the library once a year when the librarian leaves the window open. The bats all fly in and enjoy themselves. Some read books, other play in the water fountain, others find quiet places to enjoy themselves, usually with books. The youngest bats who have never been there before are having the experience of their lives. The elders enjoy introducing them to all the wonderful things at the library and the wonders of books. A great story and pure pleasure.
