Editorial Review:

Product Description:
The scrumptious—and deadly— hardcover debut of the national bestselling Chocoholic Mysteries.

Lee McKinney Woodyard knows that being in the luxury chocolate business isn’t all sweetness and light, and neither is the holiday season. But she tries to draw the line at cold-blooded murder.

As treasurer of WinterFest, Lee is up to her elbows in the arguments, egos, and last-minute mix-ups that happen behind the scenes. But she’s coping, even when the guest juror of the art show shows up drunk. Lee leaves him to sleep it off, and is stunned the next day when her husband, Joe, discovers someone has put the visiting dignitary into a permanent state of repose...

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Sick of Carl's "Hook"!
I was introduced to Eve Sandstrom (a.k.a. Joanna carl) when I read with disappointment her "Down Home" series in the 1990s. Those books were depressing. The "chocolate" books are just plain annoying. I've stopped reading these potentially cozy little mysteries. The verbal glitches almost constantly made by her main character, Lee McKinney, have become such a distraction that I don't even want to take the time to attempt to get through the plot! An unnecessary annoyance that ruins a nice little ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Back in Business
I thought this book was much better than the last one. The writing is sharper in general and the mystery was more complex. I really enjoy this series and my minor criticisms with the last book were (spelling things out for the reader that were obvious and the over-use of Lee's tongue-tangling)were minimal to non-existent in this book. The setting of Warner Pier is fantastic and I was thrilled with the holiday atmosphere. I thought that this book was more sophisticated overall since we get some interesting ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Disappointed
I have read all the books in the series and this one is not as good. I think she is losing steam and wearing out the series. It is just so so.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Yummy addition to this chocoholic series
I love Christmas murder mysteries. I'm not sure why I love them so much. Perhaps it is because the mysteries I tend to read are of the cozy/amateur sleuth type and they make me feel warm and cozy. Not sure what that says about me. But it is my reality and Joanna Carl has added to my Christmas happiness with The Chocolate Snowman Murders. I haven't read her books before, but will be searching them out now that I've read this one.

Lee McKinney Woodyard doesn't really want to serve on the Warner Pier ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - scrumptious regional amateur sleuth
Lee McKinney Woodyard, manager of her Aunt Nettie's Tenhuis Chocolate shop, is the treasurer on the committee organizing the annual Warner Pier Winter Arts Festival known in Western Michigan as WinterFest. Every year an art show is sponsored, but this year a juror breaks a leg and cannot participate. He obtains a substitute retired Professor Fletcher Mendenhall. Lee's husband Joe offers to pickup the former academia, but when he gets tied up, she gets him. To her horror Fletcher pulls out a flask and starts ... Read More
